Those who leave the womb at birth and those who enter their Source at death,

Of these, three out of ten celebrate life, three out of ten celebrate death, and three out of ten simply go from life to death.

What is the reason for this?

Because they are afraid of dying, therefore they cannot live.

The one out of ten who celebrates life walks safely among wild animals.

When they go into battle, they remain unharmed.

The animals find no place to attack them and the weapons are unable to harm them.

Why? Because they can find no place for death within them.

Jeremy did not know how long his epiphany held. The magnificence of the lodestone hypothesis ebbed leaving him churning with a need to prove it. The chill of the stone ate at his knees and he became acutely self–conscious of his awe struck pose. Hope of discovery by his friends and the consequent fear of embarrassment at his prostrate position brought him to his feet.

He scanned the flat plain of stone and found nothing. Flames ripped at the gemmed stars above as the conflagration spread and settled along the mercury canal. To his right loomed the enormous serrated spear tip shaped structure. As the light lowered to more bearable levels, the detail of the enormous pyramid pagoda diffused into outline. The enormous Egyptian stepped pyramid clad in Chinese shale curve tipped roofs represented the ultimate proof of Saffiyah's long held theory.

What initially seemed an impossible fusion of technologies from two cultures parted by unbridgeable distance was now an obvious collaboration toward a common goal; to conquer Heaven.

Filled with an uncharacteristic urge to explore, Jeremy returned his attention to the mercury canal. He felt certain that Brett, Saffiyah and possibly Jin were on the other side. The mercury canal was both a barrier to the reunion of their party and an impenetrable wrapper under which lay magnetic lodestones, the evidence of his own hypothesis. Jeremy felt fresh pride at the ingenuity and artistry of his ancestors unequalled in the subsequent millennia.

Still the problem of how to cross the mercury canal remained. Brett had probably jumped it, but Jeremy lacking Brett's extra foot in height and reckless bravado decided against trying likewise.

He crossed one arm over his waist under the cylindrical case slung across his chest and touched the other fist to his lips in thought as he contemplated the task. He explored left and right as far as he dared for fear of losing his stone breadcrumb trail back to their start point and his precious telescope. Finding no safe passage point, he decided to construct a bridge. He removed his pack and telescope case, propping them against the canal wall.

After backtracking along his trail of stone breadcrumbs he found a smashed stone block wide enough to bridge the gap and small enough for him to manhandle. Jeremy struggled back to the canal, rolling the heavy block from one flattened edge to the next like a rough prototype of the first wheel.
